Vectors are specialized DNA molecules that act as vehicles for transferring foreign genes into host cells during recombinant DNA technology. They play a crucial role in gene cloning, gene expression, and genetic engineering by carrying the desired DNA fragment and ensuring its replication or expression inside the host organism. Commonly used vectors include plasmids, bacteriophages, cosmids, bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs), and yeast artificial chromosomes (YACs).
