🎯 Alcohol Metabolism : Lipid Metabolism • Biochemistry • MBBS • Dr. Rajesh Tanwar
Alcohol Metabolism biochemistry ka important topic hai jo mainly liver me hota hai. Jab ethanol body me enter karta hai, to sabse pehle enzyme Alcohol Dehydrogenase (ADH) ethanol ko acetaldehyde me convert karta hai. Ye reaction cytosol me hoti hai aur is process me NAD⁺ → NADH ban jata hai.
Uske baad highly toxic acetaldehyde ko mitochondria me enzyme Aldehyde Dehydrogenase (ALDH) convert karke acetate bana deta hai. Acetate further acetyl-CoA me convert ho kar TCA cycle ya fatty acid synthesis me use ho sakta hai.
Alcohol metabolism ke dauran excess NADH formation hoti hai, jis se metabolic imbalance develop ho sakta hai jaise fatty liver, lactic acidosis, aur hypoglycemia. Chronic alcohol consumption se liver damage aur metabolic disorders ka risk bhi badh jata hai.
👉 Short me: Ethanol → Acetaldehyde → Acetate, mainly liver me enzymes ADH aur ALDH ke through metabolize hota hai.
